The European Researchers' Night 2019 is taking place on Friday and Saturday, 27-28 September. From Spain to Czech Republic, many EST scientists and engineers will engage in public activities across the continent.

The Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences has prepared a guided visit to their observatory, including a exhibition of the historical instruments for Sun research that have been used at the facility at different points in time. You would have the opportunity to learn more about the Sun, the different ways to study it, and the European Solar Telescope. There will be EST materials (banners, leaflets... and stickers!) and the first two episodes of The QuEST will be showcased. For more info, check their web page.
Greece
Science for all. Science for YOU!

Under the slogan "Science for all. Science for YOU!", one of the biggest cultural centers in Athens will host the main event for the European Researchers' Night in the city. Several research institutes will organize activities and set up stalls in the exhibition area. The National Observatory of Athens - EST Greek partner- will have their own both, where among other things, attendants could learn about solar storms forecasting or satellite monitoring for natural disasters. The Department of Astronomy at Eötvos Lorànd University is organizing a numbers of exciting open programmes for the European Researchers' Night. From noon onwards, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the Sun with optical and H-alpha telescopes (subject to suitable weather). Detailed explanations will be provided by department staff, who will also answer any questions about astronomy that visitors may have. In addition a series of shows will be organized in the late afternoon in the Planetarium, and Dr. Bernadett Belucz will give an educational talk covering stellar constellations and their history, the Sun and planets, star formation, Hungarian research in astronomy, and the European Solar Telescope.

PROBE at Trinity College Dublin is a free public pop-up festival showcasing the diverse range of academic research taking place in Dublin. It will cover a great range of reaserach topics, including astronomy and astrophysics: there will be workshops and talks about rockets, comets, and gravitational waves, and a guided tour of the Monck Observatory on the roof of the Fitzgerald Building. Scientists of the Solar and Space Weather Research Group and the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies - EST partners in Ireland- will also take part in the event, answering all your doubts about solar physics and the European Solar Telescope. This year, the European Researchers' Night in Italy will be SHARPER - SHAring Researchers’ Passions for Evidences and Resilience. In Catania, several institutions devoted to physics, astrophysics, nanotechnology, and material sciences will join forces in a pop up science show. There will be exhibitions, conferences, and workshops covering all kind of topics from exoplanets to Moon exploration to the mysteries of the nano-world. EST scientists will also be there, explaining everything about the Sun and the European Solar Telescope to those attending the event. More information in their Facebook event page.

Parco dell' INAF Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma. Monte Porzio Catone (Rome)
The Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF) has arranged for several activities at each of its 17 institutes in Italy. Researchers of the INAF Osservatorio Astronomico di Roma - one of the EST partners in Italy- will offer seminars, guided tours to the historical instruments, and the opportunity to observe Jupiter and Saturn with telescopes. There will also be activities for children, exhibition stands - three of which will focus on solar physics - and several short talks and conferences. One of those conferences will focus on the Sun and Sun-Earth relations, addressing also the role of the European Solar Telescope for solar physics research. The EST will also have a dedicated stand, which will summarize the main features of the project, and display both the promotional EST movies and episodes of the cartoon series "The QuEST". Visitors will also find there gadgets (stickers, leaflets, pencils) and educational material (postcards, puzzles, drawings, fact sheets) on the EST and on our star, the Sun. Lecture hall "Gismondi" in the Faculty of Sciences, Via della Ricerca Scientifica 1, Rome
The event "Tor Vergata: Space University" will have a very special guest: cosmonaut Lt. Col. Walter Villadei. The event will also provide a complete view at the research undertaken by the Physics Department and the Tor Vergata section of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics. Researchers involved in the EST project will have talks on space research and on the role of the active Sun in the physical conditions of the circumterrestrial space. Slovakia
Revealing the Secrets of the Sun

Many scientist and institutions use the European Researchers' Night to bring science out of the walls of the laboratories and research centres. In the Slovak city of Poprad, activities for the day are organized at the city mall: from 9.30 to 20.30 no less than 14 workshops and conferences will take place at the mall cinema theatres. One of the conferences will be delivered by Dr. Peter Gömöry, director of the Astronomical Institute of the Slovak Academy of Science. In an educational fashion, Gömory will address the traits of our star, the impact they have on Earth, and how scientists are using their knowledge of the Sun to better understand other stars in the Universe. It will also address the role of the European Solar Telescope for solar research. For more information, check their web.

The Sun with a Thousand Faces

The Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía, one of the EST partners in Spain, will have its own stand at the official, outdoor venue for the European Researchers' Night in Granada. Scientists, engineers, and outreach officers from the institute will be at the booth. There will also be some outreach talks, including one by Dr. Luis Bellot, astrophysicist and Communications Coordinator for the PRE-EST project. A perfect opportunity to discover the most mysterious and unknown aspects of the Sun, together with the techniques used to study them and the improvements and new developments the European Solar Telescope will bring along. The Instituto de Atrofísica de Canarias, EST leading partner, will organise live broadcasts via its YouTube channel from a number of telescopes at the Teide and Roque de los Muchachos Observatories. Astronomers from diverse disciplines (solar physics, high energy astrophysics, galaxies, cosmology..) will show and explain their work with the telescopes. One of the EST researchers, Tobías Felipe, will answer doubts on solar physics from 18.00 to 18.35. Also, the Institute will have their own stand in La Laguna science fair, with activities such as interview with an astronomer, a look into the history of women in astronomy and astrophyics, and theatrical pieces. Sweden
The Future of Solar Research: the European Solar Telescope

In Sweden, the European Researchers’ Night and the Day and Night of Astronomy are organized together. Thus, the Department of Astronomy at Stockholm University has organized a full programme of activities including solar observations, and workshops on planetary models, robotics for astronomy purposes (you can even program a Mars rover!), and light pollution measurement. There will also be a handful of educational conferences, including one about the European Solar Telescope by Dr. Dan Kiselman. In fact, Kiselman, an astrophysicist, will do two “performances”: at 13.30 and 15.30, so there is no excuse for anyone to miss it. More information can be found on their web.
