Chromospheric activity of sunspot near the limb
Hinode Broadband Filter Imager
This movie shows the chromospheric evolution of a sunspot near the limb over a period of about one hour. The observations were taken by the Hinode Broadband Filter Imager at a cadence of 8 seconds in the Ca II H line, which samples plasma at chromospheric temperatures.
Very noticeable are the brightenings and small jets that occur in the sunspot penumbra all the time. Also clearly seen are very dynamic spicules at the limb and an active region prominence off the limb.
