Solar Orbiter

Location:  Interplanetary space

Owner:  European Space Agency (ESA)

Solar Orbiter is the most complex scientific laboratory ever sent to the Sun. It takes images of the Sun from closer than any spacecraft before and for the first time will look at the uncharted solar polar regions. With its combination of six remote sensing instruments and four in-situ instruments, it gathers unprecedented capabilities to study the Sun and the heliosphere as a complex system where all the phenomena taking place in the interplanetary medium have their origin in our star. It was launched on 10 February, 2020 from Cape Canaveral (Florida, USA). Solar Orbiter is an ESA mission in collaboration with NASA.
